Two-Day Workshop: Out of School and Hard to Serve Youth (May 13-14, 2008)
Location: Employment Source, 822 30th Street, N.W. (Conference Rooms A & B), Canton, OH 44709.
Time: Registration at 8:30 a.m. The session begins at 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
Description: Out-of-school youth are one of the key populations served under the Workforce Investment (WIA) Act of 1998. This workshop provides information and tools to help local youth councils, WIA administrators, case managers, and service providers serve out-of-school youth. Topics covered include: the definition of out-of-school youth, effective strategies for conducting outreach for out-of-school youth, effective strategies for recruiting out-of-school youth, effective strategies for engaging out-of-school youth, and tools to help in providing WIA youth services to out-of-school youth.

Workshop: OIPLD Initiative - Adaptive/Assistive Technology Resources for One-Stop Partners and Customers (May 16, 2008)

Description: The Ohio Initiative for Persons with Learning Disabilities (OIPLD) is offering a full-day training re: both low and high tech adaptive/assistive resources that can increase One-Stop customers' chances of being successful as employees, students and community members. This workshop is targeted to One-Stop agency partners who may share common customers e.g. ABLE, DJFS, RSC and others. LD/TANF teams are encouraged to attend.

This workshop provides information and tools to help youth council members fulfill the legislative and regulatory function of youth councils, define their own youth council's role in local system development, determine goals for the system, engage a broad range of youth development and youth-serving agencies in the community, and advocate youth development and youth services to the local Workforce Investment Board (WIB).
